Listen and follow. What character does the director want to find?

 

• You  have  to  preview the pictures in the comic, and relate them to the audition.

• You  have  to  read the instructions aloud. Then play the track ,listen and follow.

• You  have  to  answer the question.

Then answer : Why do you think the director chose the last person as the pirate?

Who do you think her assistant wanted for the part?

 • You  have  to  read the comic aloud one speech bubble at a time, and  raise your  hand when you  hear a quantifier. Pause the reading for you  to circle.

• You  have  to  review the meaning of each quantifier and whether the noun is countable or uncountable

Look at the script.

 

• You  have  to   find one example of each of the parts of a drama.

• You  have  to   read the full text.

• You  have  to   to notice formatting that can help you  identify the different parts. For example, stage directions are in italics, and each line of dialogue begins with the character’s name.

 

Activity 2 .

 

Listen and follow. 83(15 min.)

 

• Play Track 83  then  listen and follow .

• Notice  how reading a play is different from reading a story. Answer : Was it easier or harder to follow the story? Do the stage directions help you picture the action in the same way a story does?

Activity 1 .

 

Find the words in “The Magic Lamp.” Complete the sentences.

 

• Read the words in the word bank.

• Read the context for meaning and complete the sentences.

• Check answers and reading comprehension. Answer questions like:

Why does Aladdin hang around outside the palace?

Why doesn’t Aladdin’s mother want him to go?

How does Aladdin trick the genie?

 

Activity 2 .

 

Find the sentences in “The Magic Lamp.” Circle D(dialogue), S (setting) or SD (stage directions).

 

• Read the instructions, and review these three parts of a drama

 

Activity 3 .

 

What do you learn in Scene 1 and what do you learn in Scene 2? Write the sentences in the correct column.

 

• Read the instructions, and have students look back at the play and find the scenes (one on each page).

Activity 1 .

 

Which movie genres do you hear about? Listen and circle.

 

• We are going to hear trailers for four movies in different genres.

• Then read the instructions, and play the track again for circling.

Listen again. Number the movie titles in order.

 

• Read the instructions, and the titles aloud.

The trailers don’t tell you the titles, but you can make inferences to figure them out.

• Play the track again, pausing after each trailer.

• Play the whole track again for checking.

 

Activity  3.

 

 

Listen to parts of the scripts from each movie. Match the characters with the situations.

 

• Match based on the descriptions.
